Cardiff University is a public research university in Cardiff, Wales, founded in 1883 as the University College of South Wales and Monmouthshire. It became an independent university in 2005 and is the only Welsh member of the Russell Group of research-intensive British universities.

The University of South Wales is a public university in Wales, formed in 2013 from the merger of the University of Glamorgan and the University of Wales, Newport. It has campuses in Cardiff, Newport and Pontypridd, and offers around 500 undergraduate and postgraduate courses.
