The University of Oklahoma (OU) is a public research university in Norman, Oklahoma, United States. Founded in 1890, it had existed in Oklahoma Territory near Indian Territory for 17 years before the two territories became the state of Oklahoma. In Fall 2023, the university had 32,676 students enrolled, [7] most at its main campus in Norman.

It is the only public college in Oklahoma with a strictly liberal arts –focused curriculum and is a member of the Council of Public Liberal Arts Colleges. [4]
The school was named in honor of John P. Connors, the Board of Agriculture's first president. [2] In March 1927, the Oklahoma Legislature made the school an accredited junior college and renamed it as Connors State Agricultural College. In 1941, the school was put under the oversight of newly created Oklahoma State System of Higher Education.
