The award-winning "Jazz Ensemble" was chosen to play at the West Virginia State Music Convention, the highest recognition a West Virginia jazz band can receive. In 2008–09, the program developed a Secondary Jazz Band along with a "Non-Marching Band" class. Students who are not in the marching band are required to enter the new class.
Wayne High School is located in Wayne, West Virginia on a 200-acre (0.81 km 2) woodland property. The campus of thirteen single-story masonry buildings is shared with Wayne Middle School. The school was founded in 1913 by Charles P. Guice and was then called Central Grade School, which was located on Sixth Avenue and Third Street in St Albans, WV. The class of 1916 were among the first graduates of the High School and after World War 1, student enrollment increased and a new building for the school was built.
