Miami-Dade County Public Schools ( M-DCPS) is the public school district serving Miami-Dade County in the U.S. state of Florida. Founded in 1885, it is the largest school district in Florida, the largest in the Southeastern United States, and the third-largest [3] in the United States [4] with a student enrollment of 356,589 as of August 30, 2021.
The school was started by the St. Paul A.M.E. Church of Coconut Grove. Students from as far as Palm Beach County came to this school. The school thrived from opening in 1927 as an all-black school up until 1966. It was converted to a middle school in 1967, to help desegregate the Miami-Dade County Public Schools.
