The core element is a text file written in the HyperText Markup Language (HTML). This specifies the content of the page, [3] including images and video. Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) specify the presentation of the page. [3] CSS rules can be in separate text files or embedded within the HTML file.
These can be HTML, CSS, JavaScript, images or any other source that is required for a web application to be rendered. Their addresses can be copied into a manifest file , which can be updated regularly by the author of the web application, indicating any new web addresses that are added or deleted.
WAI-ARIA allows web pages (or portions of pages) to declare themselves as applications rather than as static documents, by adding role, property, and state information to dynamic web applications. There were also some CSS attributes missing from MSHTML, like min-height, etc. as of Internet Explorer 6. As of Internet Explorer 8 CSS 2.1 is fully supported as well as some CSS 3.0 attributes. [15]
HTML can embed programs written in a scripting language such as JavaScript, which affects the behaviour and content of web pages. Inclusion of CSS defines the look and layout of content. The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), maintainer of both the HTML and the CSS standards, has encouraged the use of CSS over explicit presentational HTML since 1997.
