The Detroit St. Patrick's Parade is an annual parade held on the Sunday preceding St. Patrick's Day Corktown, Detroit, Michigan . The parade has been held each year since 1958 (except 2020 & 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic ), and is hosted by the United Irish Societies. The first parade was in Dearborn, Michigan.
It is "the only bi-state St. Patrick's Day Parade in the USA", according to the St. Patrick's Day Society of the Quad Cities, [109] crossing the Centennial Bridge from Rock Island, Illinois into Davenport, Iowa. Being so close to Chicago, this parade still gathers around 200,000 annually on its historical parade route.
Of the two Chicago parades, the other being in downtown, the South Side Irish Parade was the more raucous occasion. The 2009 parade was presumably the last parade. On March 25, 2009, the South Side Irish St. Patrick's Day Parade Committee announced that they were not planning to stage a parade in its present form in March 2010.
