The types of information elements are categorized and organized with a list of DNS record types, the resource records (RRs). Each record has a type (name and number), an expiration time (time to live), a class, and type-specific data.
CNAME record A Canonical Name (CNAME) record is a type of resource record in the Domain Name System (DNS) that maps one domain name (an alias) to another (the canonical name). [1] This can prove convenient when running multiple services (like an FTP server and a web server, each running on different ports) from a single IP address.
