It is part of the Palm Bay – Melbourne – Titusville, Florida Metropolitan Statistical Area, and is the smallest incorporated municipality (by population) in Brevard County. [ 7] The population was 681 at the 2020 US Census, up from 662 at the 2010 census.
The initial Homestead Exemption sought to ease the burden on homeowners by exempting property taxes on the first $5,000 of a homeowner's residence. The exemption was increased by the Florida Legislature to $10,000 during the 1960s, although this was not incorporated into the constitution.

Ernest Kouwen-Hoven (1875–1940) [1] came to the U.S at the age of 20 from the Netherlands. In 1908, his son, Jack, was born. His daughter, Phylis, followed in 1910. In 1915, the family arrived in Melbourne, Florida from California. He purchased land and platted it in 1916, thus founding Indialantic, Florida. The plat was later revised in 1919.
