The Pasadena Unified School District ( PUSD) was founded in 1874 and is a unified school district for Pasadena, Sierra Madre, and Altadena, in the U.S. state of California. As of 2020 PUSD has 14 elementary schools (TK, K-5, K-8), three middle schools (6-8), four high schools (6-12, 9-12), and one continuation school.
History[edit] Pasadena City College Clocktower. Pasadena City College was founded in 1924 as Pasadena Junior College. It originally operated on Pasadena High School 's campus as an extended learning program of the high school. [5] In 1928, PJC and Pasadena High School formally merged. [5]
In 2011 voters approved of a new bond which allowed Pasadena ISD to complete building grade 5-6 middle school facilities for all of the district. School uniforms. All students in Pasadena ISD are required to follow a specific dress code. As of the 2016-2017 school year, students are free to wear any type of appropriate shirt or dress.
The school was named John Muir Technical High School and though majority White, it served a growing community of Black, Japanese-American and Mexican-American students. In 1938, the school was converted into a junior college and renamed Pasadena Junior College West. It closed during WW2 and was used by the US Army as a Training School.
The school was first established as a district school in 1884 and became Pasadena High School in 1891. [6] In 1928, the school merged into Pasadena Junior College and operated as a four-year school, grades 11, 12, 13 and 14. Pasadena realigned its 6-4-4 school system in 1954 with Pasadena High School regaining its separate identity.

La Salle College Preparatory is a private, Catholic college preparatory high school founded and run by the Institute of the Brothers of the Christian Schools in Pasadena, California and located in the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Los Angeles. It was founded in 1956 as La Salle High School. It was accredited in 1961 by the University of California.
