Ball State University (Ball State, State or BSU) is a public research university in Muncie, Indiana.It has two satellite facilities in Fishers and Indianapolis.. In 1917, the Ball brothers, industrialists and founders of the Ball Corporation, acquired the foreclosed Indiana Normal Institute and gave the school and surrounding land to the State of Indiana.
In 1965, in recognition of the school growth beyond merely being a school to educate public school teachers, the Indiana General Assembly renames the school as Ball State University with an enrollment of 10,066 students. It wasn't until the promotion of the school to official "University" status, that Ball State began to grow academically.

Ball State University's Emens Auditorium is named after him. Planning for this building started at the beginning of his tenure, but it wasn't built until 1961, almost 15 years later. Ball State's enrollment grew exponentially during his tenure, from around 1,000 in 1945 when he first started as president, to over 13,000 in 1968 when he retired.
