Herbert Hoover High School is a public secondary school in the Fresno Unified School District serving Fresno, California, United States, in northern Fresno County. It is named for Herbert Hoover, the 31st President of the United States .
The school has been ranked #79 in the 1998 listing, #83 in 2000, #166 in 2003 and #331 in 2005. The school was recognized by the California State Board of Education as a California Distinguished School in 2001. The school was also honored with the award in 1990 and 1992, and again in 2007.
Central High serves grades 9-12 and is part of the Central Unified School District. Central Unified is currently constructing a new campus expected to open during the 2021-2022 school year. The new high school will be named after the late Central Football Coach Justin Garza.
Former Fresno Unified trustee Nancy Richardson won the Sunnyside seat in a June 1990 election and began serving her four-year term. To get the funding for constructing new facilities, Fresno Unified put a bond measure before voters in June 1995. The measure passed and the Sunnyside High School project received $48 million in funding.
