The Jharkhand Legislative Assembly is the unicameral state legislature of Jharkhand state in India . The seat of the Legislative Assembly is at Ranchi, the capital of the state. The term of the Legislative Assembly is five years, unless dissolved earlier. Presently, it comprises 81 members who are directly elected from single-seat constituencies.
Ranchi district is the first in the state in terms of population. 8.83% of the total population of the state lives in this district - 56.9% is rural population and 43.1% is urban population. History. Chatra was the “headquarters” of Ramgarh district in the 18th-19th century. The renowned reformer, Raja Rammohan Roy, was sheristadar in Ramgarh district, in 1804–05, and used to function from both Ramgarh and Chatra. Subsequently, Ramgarh district became part of North-western Frontier Agency and Hazaribagh district came up.
