It is located just east of the Cascade Range near the junction of Interstate 90 and Interstate 82. The population was 18,666 at the 2020 census. [4] and was estimated to be 18,703 in 2022.
An Ellensburg post office was established in 1853, changed to Ellensburg in 1877, and changed to Gold Beach in 1890. [7] Mailboats based in Gold Beach have been delivering mail upstream to Agness since 1895, one of only two rural mailboat routes remaining in the U.S. [8]
