The Domain Name System ( DNS) is a hierarchical and distributed name service that provides a naming system for computers, services, and other resources in the Internet or other Internet Protocol (IP) networks. It associates various information with domain names (identification strings) assigned to each of the associated entities.
Network domain. A network domain is an administrative grouping of multiple private computer networks or local hosts within the same infrastructure. [1] [2] [3] Domains can be identified using a domain name; domains which need to be accessible from the public Internet can be assigned a globally unique name within the Domain Name System (DNS).
Multicast DNS. In computer networking, the multicast DNS ( mDNS) protocol resolves hostnames to IP addresses within small networks that do not include a local name server.
