Ekibastuz GRES-1 (also known as: AES-Ekibastuz) is a 4,000 MW coal-fired thermal power station (GRES) at Ekibastusz, Kazakhstan. It is located by lake Zhyngyldy. The ashes of the station are dumped into nearby lake Karasor. [1] GRES-1 has two 330-metre (1,083 ft) tall chimneys.
The construction of GRES-2 was part of a Program for Ekıbastūz coalfield development, foreseeing to be built four thermal power plants, each one of 4,000 MW (8 units x 500 MWe). In years 1991–93 only Units No 1 and 2 were commissioned.
