History. Wright State was founded in 1964 as a branch campus of both Miami University (Ohio) and Ohio State University.The school began its athletic program in 1968 as an NCAA Division II school, where the athletics program achieved great success, having over 200 All-American athletes and winning the 1983 Division II Men's Basketball national championship.

Wright State University is a public research university in Fairborn, Ohio, United States.Originally opened in 1964 as a branch campus of Miami University and Ohio State University, it became an independent institution in 1967 and was named in honor of aviation pioneers Orville and Wilbur Wright, who were residents of nearby Dayton.
For the 1990–91 season, Wright State began play in the Ervin J. Nutter Center. Originally built in a bowl configuration, the huge arena put the fans on top of the action. This was particularly true for the students and band in the moveable metal bleachers in section 200 along the baseline.
