Francis C. Hammond Middle School in 2017. Francis C. Hammond Middle School in Alexandria, Virginia, is located at 4646 Seminary Road in the west end of the city.Opened as a four-year high school in 1956, it was named after Alexandria native Francis Hammond (1931–1953), a U.S. Navy hospital corpsman who was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for his actions in the Korean War.

History. The first official classes in the area were held in a church. However, in 1884, local residents built a one-room house on donated land. In 1939, an election was held in which voters in the Cypress and Fairbanks school systems approved the creation of the Cypress-Fairbanks Consolidated School District; the measure passed by a vote of 129-66 in Cypress and 90-87 in Fairbanks.
Normally, a student will attend an elementary school, and this also determines the middle school and high school they attend unless they move. "Magnet" refers to how magnet schools accept students from different areas, pulling students out of the normal progression of schools. Attending them is voluntary.
All District 205 Middle schools feed into York Community High School, which is the only high school in the District. The District also has an early childhood center named Madison Early Childhood Center, which is closing soon, allowing a new community center to be built.
