Alden-Hebron High School is the smallest school to win the Illinois High School Boys Basketball Championship. In 1952, with an enrollment of 98 students, the boys team won the state title with an overtime victory over Quincy with a final score of 64-59. At the time, all Illinois schools competed for a single championship, regardless of enrollment.
Alden Middle School opened in 1960 as an extension of the 1914/1936/1951 complex on Crittenden Road. It operated for many years as a 6-8 school. Due to district consolidation in 2011, the school expanded to Grades 4-8 and merged with the Intermediate School. The schools split and returned to their prior states in 2016.
