Shelby County High School is located in Shelbyville, KY, approximately 30 miles east of Kentucky's largest city, Louisville. December 27, 1988. The Lincoln Institute was an all- black boarding high school in Shelby County, Kentucky from 1912 to 1966. The school was created by the trustees of Berea College after the Day Law passed the Kentucky Legislature in 1904. It put an end to the racially integrated education at Berea that had lasted since the end of the Civil War.

She is a native of Shelby County where she graduated from Shelby County High School. She received her Bachelor of Science and Dental Degree at the University of Kentucky. Upon completion of her dental degree, she remained in Lexington for two additional years and was awarded her specialty certificate in hospital-based pediatric dentistry in 2002.
