LaGuardia Community College was the earliest and most active participant in the Wikimedia Education Program from 2012-2017, having incorporated Wikipedia editing assignments into more classes by more professors than any other university in that time period. Professors and classes at LaGuardia continue to use Wikipedia editing as a learning tool.

History Old Main, the oldest building on campus. The university's origins can be traced back to the New Paltz Classical School, which originally opened in 1828.After changing its name to the New Paltz Academy in 1833, the school was decimated by a fire in 1884, after which the school offered their land to the state government of New York contingent upon the establishment of a normal school.
The shield is separated into three parts, with a yellow line separating a yellow log cabin and a yellow dome, with the first representing Lucien Gautier's Saint Paul's Chapel in the city, built in 1841 and eventually becoming the city's namesake. The dome symbolizes the city's importance as the location of the Minnesota State Capitol.
