Cotton University (formerly known as Cotton College) is a public state university located in Guwahati, Assam, India. It was established in 2017 by the provisions of an Act from the Assam Legislative Assembly which merged Cotton College State University and Cotton College.
The university was established as the Muhammadan Anglo-Oriental College in 1875 by Sir Syed Ahmad Khan. [3] [5] It began to function on 24 May 1875. [6]The movement associated with Syed Ahmad Khan and the college came to be known as the Aligarh Movement, which pushed to realise the need for establishing a modern education system for the Indian Muslim populace.
