Saint Vincent Archabbey and College was founded in 1846 by Boniface Wimmer, a monk from Metten Abbey in Bavaria. On April 18, 1870, the Pennsylvania state legislature incorporated the school as a college, Saint Vincent College. On January 28, 1963 a fire destroyed many of the buildings on campus including a student chapel and a bell tower.
