By 1955, there was only one school for black students in Seminole County, the Seminole County Training School; it was located in Donalsonville and enrolled around 540 students. In 1969, Lyman High School moved to a newly constructed state-of-the-art campus approximately 1/4 mile to the north, while the former Lyman campus became R. T. Milwee Junior High School, named after Rayburn T. Milwee, Sr., a former Lyman teacher (1939-1949), Lyman principal (1949-1952) and Superintendent of Seminole County Schools (1952-1967).

Lake Mary High School was the fourth high school in Seminole County, opening for the 1981–82 academic year which is recent. Seminole High School was opened in 1902. The 300,000-square-foot (28,000 m 2 ) physical plant includes an 800-seat auditorium, 890-seat cafeteria, 2,200-seat gymnasium, a media center, and 13 computer labs.
