The glutathione binding site, or "G-site", is located in the thioredoxin-like domain of both cytosolic and mitochondrial GSTs.The region containing the greatest amount of variability between the assorted classes is that of helix α2, where one of three different amino acid residues interacts with the glycine residue of glutathione.

Glutathione is the most abundant non-protein thiol (R−SH-containing compound) in animal cells, ranging from 0.5 to 10 mmol/L. It is present in the cytosol and the organelles. In healthy cells and tissue, more than 90% of the total glutathione pool is in the reduced form (GSH), with the remainder in the disulfide form (GSSG).
Glutathione benefits. 1. Reduces oxidative stress. Oxidative stress occurs when there’s an imbalance between the production of free radicals and the body’s ability to fight them off. Too-high ...
20 People found this comment helpful. Glutathione does not survive the stomach when taken orally. An intravenous shot is extremely expensive ($175+) and as glutathione is transient in the body (not stored), lasts about 5-6 hours. Not a long term option. Glutathione precursors make sense and are available.
Glutathione synthetase deficiency. Glutathione synthetase deficiency ( GSD) is a rare autosomal recessive [1] metabolic disorder that prevents the production of glutathione. Glutathione helps prevent damage to cells by neutralizing harmful molecules generated during energy production. Glutathione also plays a role in processing medications and ...
The term redox state is often used to describe the balance of GSH/GSSG, NAD + /NADH and NADP + /NADPH in a biological system such as a cell or organ. The redox state is reflected in the balance of several sets of metabolites (e.g., lactate and pyruvate, beta-hydroxybutyrate, and acetoacetate), whose interconversion is dependent on these ratios ...
