Monroe, known as "the Cheese Capital of the USA", is a city in and the county seat of Green County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 10,661 at the 2020 census. The city is bordered by the town of Monroe to the north and the town of Clarno to the south. Monroe is a part of the Madison Metropolitan Statistical Area.
Monroe is located in northwestern Adams County, along Petenwell Lake, a large reservoir on the Wisconsin River. According to the United States Census Bureau , the town has a total area of 38.5 square miles (99.6 km 2 ), of which 21.9 square miles (56.7 km 2 ) is land and 16.6 square miles (42.9 km 2 ), or 43.11%, is water.
Mill Bluff State Park is a state park in west-central Wisconsin, United States.It is located in eastern Monroe and western Juneau counties, near the village of Camp Douglas.A unit of the Ice Age National Scientific Reserve, the park protects several prominent sandstone bluffs 80 feet (24 m) to 200 feet (61 m) high that formed as sea stacks 12,000 years ago in Glacial Lake Wisconsin.

The Monroe Water Tower is a historic water tower built in 1889 in Monroe, Wisconsin. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2005. The first settlers came to Monroe in the 1830s. The community grew, adding a sawmill and other small industries. The railroad came in 1858, and Monroe incorporated as a village the same year.
