Dr. Gabriel Trujillo is the superintendent, appointed on September 12, 2017, by the Governing Board. [2] As of 2016, TUSD had more than 47,670 students.
South High School opened in September 1957 and moved to a new campus in January, 1958 with 20 buildings and 106 classrooms. It currently serves children south of Sepulveda, west of Hawthorne and north of Lomita Boulevard.
Originally students attended Burbank schools until the high school level, when they moved on to Glendale Union High School District.The Burbank school district established its first high school, Burbank High School, in 1908, and therefore withdrew from the Glendale High School district.
