College of the Desert (COD) is a public community college in Palm Desert, California. COD enrolls about 12,500 students, of which around one third attend college full-time. It serves the Coachella Valley of Riverside County. The college is federally recognized as a Hispanic-serving institution (HSI), receiving Title V grants. [2] [3]
The majority of Palm Desert Campus undergraduate students have transferred from College of the Desert through a dual admissions program. [16] A health sciences building for the four-year nursing program opened on the Palm Desert Campus in October 2008. [17] The Palm Desert Campus was built entirely with private funds.
CMC was originally an offshoot of the College of the Desert. [3] Founded in 1966 for the purpose of providing education opportunities for the surrounding desert communities and families stationed at the 29 Palms Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center, the college held its first courses in classrooms at the 29 Palms High School campus during the fall, 1967 semester.

Victor Valley College lies on the southern edge of the Mojave Desert. The college sits directly to the south of Spring Valley Lake (a planned unincorporated community in San Bernardino County). It is located at the confluence of Victorville, Hesperia, and Apple Valley. The property lies at the most southeastern point in the city of Victorville.
