Hamm served as the news director for the local TV station in Lafayette, Louisiana KATC (TV). His nightly editorials chronicled not just life in Louisiana, but the national news as well. A longtime resident in Lafayette, Hamm had connections at all levels of Louisiana government.
In 1962, KATC signed on as the ABC affiliate for Lafayette (and, by extension, Lake Charles) on KTAG's desired channel 3. CBS would not return to Lake Charles until KSWL-LD signed on February 15, 2017; [3] prior to this, Lafayette's KLFY-TV and Beaumont 's KFDM served as the CBS affiliates for the area.
On June 30, 2021, the Lafayette Daily Advertiser reported that investigators from the Louisiana State Police were prevented from recommending prosecution of any of the involved officers by the senior state police leadership, including the superintendent, Col. Kevin Reeves, and Chief of Staff Bob Brown. Federal investigations were unaffected.
