The U.S. Navy closed the Charleston Naval Shipyard and naval base on April 1, 1994, but CNS' member base was robust enough that the credit union was able to withstand the loss. Idaho Central Credit Union (ICCU) is a state-chartered credit union in the western United States, headquartered in Chubbuck, Idaho, adjacent to Pocatello. ICCU is the largest credit union in Idaho , with numerous branches serving over 560,000 members with assets over $11 billion; its governing agency is the state's Department of Finance.
The credit union began with $437 in assets and 17 members and was first operated from the basement of Raleigh's Agriculture Building. By 1960, the credit union grew to serve over 70,000 members and had assets of almost $25 million. By 2022, State Employees' Credit Union had grown to over $53.1 Billion in assets and 2.7 million members.
The credit union's initial membership consisted of eleven individuals with assets totaling $55. Membership eligibility has now expanded to include over 1,500 clubs, organizations, and employers. In 2018, Redstone Federal Credit Union was recognized as the Credit Union of the Year by the National Association of Federally Insured Credit Unions.
