After a public referendum to abolish the State Community College, a replacement college district, Metropolitan Community College (District 541), was founded around 1995 with its own board of trustees. SCC's North Central accreditation was transferred to MCC effective July 1, 1996.
In 1849, it was moved to St. Louis, and in 1926, the current campus was built. [ 4 ] The St. Louis institution was at one time considered the "theoretical" (academic) seminary of the LCMS while Concordia Theological Seminary in Fort Wayne was considered the "practical" seminary, although those distinctions no longer exist.
In 1952 John Barnes and Allen Cole purchased Dumford Academy, located on Bartmer Avenue, and renamed it Whitfield School. During spring break of 1957, Barnes and Cole and the school moved into a residential house in Creve Coeur, some of which had been converted into classrooms. The house became the nucleus of the current campus; it now serves as administrative offices
Students must also participate in service to the community in order to graduate. In 2017, the school announced that the Class of 2018 had six students - nearly 10% of the class - obtain a perfect score of 36 on the ACT with over 44% of the class earning a 33 or higher, placing them in the top 2% nationally.
Around 1960 enrollment exceeded 500 young ladies. Innovations included advanced college credit courses, more electives, and modular scheduling. In 1977 with the closing of Notre Dame College on campus the high school acquired that building to house its science, fine arts, and counseling departments.
