In 1997, the college admitted its first class, and has graduated a class every year starting in 1998. The annual intake as at November 2014, is 40 participants. History. Technical University of Kenya grew out of the Kenya Polytechnic. The Kenya Polytechnic was founded in 1961. [4] Proposals for the establishment of a technical institute in Nairobi were put forward in the Willoughby Report published in 1949. This led to the creation of the Royal Technical College of East Africa (RTCEA).
