The property, prior to development, was owned for several decades by the famed Desloge family of St. Louis consisting of virgin, old-growth oak forest. [6] The Desloge family, in the 1940s, acquired the property upon which part of the property contained a steeplechase course of the Bridlespur Hunt Club founded by August A Busch, Sr in 1927. [7]

Colonel Dent was a farmer in St. Louis County. He owned 925 acres along Gravois Creek, 10 miles southwest of the city, and owned slaves to farm the land. Five miles from the Dent farm was Jefferson Barracks, where Ulysses S. Grant was assigned in 1843, after attending West Point and rooming with Julia Dent's brother. [2]
Pequaywan Township is a township in Saint Louis County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 130 at the 2010 census. Pequaywan Lake Road (Saint Louis County Road 44) serves as a main route in the township. In his book Minnesota Place Names, Warren Upham cites the word pequaywan as "an Ojibwe name of undetermined meaning".
