Grady is an American sitcom and a spin-off of Sanford and Son that aired on NBC from December 4, 1975, to March 11, 1976. Whitman Mayo reprises his role as Fred Sanford 's widower friend Grady Wilson, who leaves Watts to move in with his daughter and her family in Westwood. Executive producer Norman Lear served as a consultant to the show.
Whitman Blount Mayo Jr. was born in New York City. He was raised in Harlem and later Queens. At the age of 17, he moved with his family to Southern California. Mayo enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving from 1951 to 1953 during the Korean War. Upon discharge, he studied at Chaffey College, Los Angeles City College, and UCLA.

Midtown High School, formerly Henry W. Grady High School, is a public high school located in Atlanta, Georgia, United States. It began as Boys High School and was one of the first two high schools established by Atlanta Public Schools in 1872. In 1947, the school was named after Henry W. Grady, a journalist, orator in the Reconstruction Era.
