American Leadership Academy ( ALA) is a regional group of tuition-free public charter schools headquartered in Mesa, Arizona which provides education for Pre-K-12 students. [1] ALA currently consists of over 30 schools located in Arizona, North Carolina, and South Carolina; as of the 2019–2020 school year, enrollment exceeded 10,500 students.
History. Charlotte Country Day School was founded as an independent school in 1941 by headmaster Dr. Thomas Burton. [2] The school opened in September 1941 with 18 students matriculating. [3] [4] By 1945 the Country Day included grades 1 – 8 and had an enrollment of 56 students on a six-acre school site on Sardis Road in suburban Charlotte.
In 1960, a group of men inspired by a Billy Graham crusade organized Christian High School. In 1969, these two schools merged to become Christian School Association of Charlotte, Inc., creating a kindergarten through twelfth grade institution. The school continued to grow and moved to its current site on Sardis Road in 1971.
The Chula Vista center is also home to the annual SoCal Showdown, a national-level archery tournament that attracts archers from around the country to compete in a several day competition consisting of qualifications and eliminations. The Chula Vista center also hosts as the training site for the USA Rugby Sevens team. References
