ScriptFax is built using advanced data mining to acquire hard-to-find chain pharmacy fax numbers, and is the best value in a well-populated database of pharmacy fax numbers. ScriptFax reveals hidden fax numbers for CVS, Walgreens, Rite-Aid, Walmart, Target and other chain pharmacy locations, as well as more than 47,000 independent pharmacies.
CarePrecise has also recently developed ScribeFax, an enhanced clinician fax database, that can be utilized in prescription and treatment clarifications and medical records requests. 10% will be deducted from the prices when purchasing ScribeFax and ScriptFax at the same time.
Pharmacy data from hundreds of thousands of source records, beyond the pharmacies' NPI records, is mined by CarePrecise to create the most comprehensive database of pharmacy fax numbers available. Mined data fills gaps in pharmacy fax numbers, particularly in chain pharmacies such as CVS, Walgreens, Walmart, Rite Aid, and the rest.
Unlike the NPI registry and other publicly available pharmacy fax number sources, which contain few working fax numbers for some chain pharmacy locations*, ScriptFax contains thousands more fax numbers for chain and independent pharmacies.
A Complete U.S. Pharmacy Database
ScriptFax includes all pharmacies, not just those for whom a fax number is reported, and it includes more correct pharmacy fax numbers than any other existing resource. Included for all pharmacies are the name, pharmacy physical address, phone number, type of pharmacy, latitude and longitude of the pharmacy zip code, and number of pharmacists, among other data (see table below). Advanced data mining appends fax numbers where none are accessible through available sources.
Robust Pharmacy Fax Data
By drawing on pharmacist data as well as the pharmacies' records, ScriptFax fills in gaps left (intentionally) by many chain pharmacies who do not wish to broadly expose store fax numbers. The numbers below are counts of records with fax numbers. Note that in the counts below, Total Records with Fax differs from Unique Locations in that one location may have more than one NPI record, and the database contains all. If multiple fax numbers are available for a single pharmacy location, it may have more than one record in the file. This ensures that certain data, such as licensure and contact persons, are presented. Total Records in DB is the total number of pharmacy locations in the database, including those for whom we have not yet identified a fax number. ScriptFax contains every U.S. HIPAA-covered pharmacy, approximately 100%, with fax numbers collected for numbers of pharmacies as shown below.
Data population counts change with each monthly release. Current counts:

What Data Is Included in ScriptFax?
Pharmacist Email Addresses
CarePrecise also maintains email addresses for U.S. pharmacists, available separately. Currently, the CP Preferred Email™ dataset includes email addresses for approximately 36,000 licensed pharmacists. Special pricing on the full pharmacist email dataset is available for ScriptFax users. Request details...
Version 2.07: The database is presented as a "flat file" that can be used in Excel or other spreadsheet or database program. Each record – of which there may be more than one per location – appears on its own row in the Excel and CSV files. A single pharmacy location may have more than one record in the file. This ensures that certain data, such as licensure and contact persons, are presented.
Data Formats
ScriptFax is delivered in three formats: Microsoft Access .mdb, Microsoft Excel .xlsx, and Comma Separated Values .csv. Product version 2.07.
An archive of records that have been deprecated as a result of testing or other method of verification is preserved in the file PharmacyFax_Deprecated, identical in structure to the ScriptFax file.

What considerations are there when sending a prescription to a pharmacy via fax?
HIPAA does not prohibit the use of fax machines to communicate prescriptions. Fax lines and most IP transmission technologies are considered conduits, that is, they transmit personal health information (PHI), but cannot read it or otherwise gain access to it. Point-to-point facsimile transmission is the method of choice when EDI or ePrescribing aren't feasible, but HIPAA requires some safeguards, involving reasonable efforts to prevent disclosure of PHI to unauthorized parties. The transmitting and receiving fax devices are to be situated in a secure area generally inaccessible to unauthorized persons, the destination device is to be verified before transmission, the fax should have a cover sheet stating clearly that the body of the fax contains confidential information sent with the patient's knowledge and consent, and the recipient is to be notified they have been sent the fax, among other important considerations. CarePrecise ScriptFax includes a phone number that may be used to notify the receiving pharmacy of the transmission.*
