Brian began working with Command Education in his junior year at a public high school in
Westchester. He was an excellent student—he had a 4.0 GPA and a passion for entrepreneurship and
social impact. His dream schools were the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania or
NYU Stern School of Business.
Brian’s mentor emphasized that Brian should make a difference in his community through his
passion for entrepreneurship. After some consideration, Brian’s mentor helped him to launch an
educational entrepreneurship program for younger students in his community, and reach out to
middle schools in his area where he could teach his program. With the help of his mentor, he
developed a curriculum for middle school students, which included running a small dog walking
business in students’ neighborhoods to learn the basic tenets of running a business.
Brian’s mentor guided him and his middle school students in choosing a local charity to which
they donated their profits at the end of the year. Brian’s project partnered with four other
schools in the county and educated hundreds of students on the basics of running a small
business. Under his mentors’ recommendation, Brian attended Wharton’s Leadership in the Business
World program the following summer. Academically, he continued to gain top grades at his high
school and ultimately graduated as valedictorian. He worked with his Command Education tutor to
increase his SAT score from a 1390 to a 1580. Brian was accepted to Wharton through the Early
Decision Application cycle.
