My specialties include counseling couples/families and perinatal/postpartum clients but I offer treatment for anxiety, depression and trauma as well as a variety of other symptoms.
You may be scrolling on therapy sites because you have recognized that you need a change in your life. You may not know exactly what needs to change or how to change, and that's okay! Self-awareness is a crucial first step of bettering oneself and you're there. As a counselor, I help others by exposing patterns, connecting dots and assisting the process of increasing self-efficacy. Life has called me into this profession to help others help themselves. If you are willing to put the work in, I am too.

Therapy and change can be incredibly uncomfortable. Finding a therapist who you can connect with in navigating these changes can be equally as difficult. I am here to guide you through the uncomfortable parts, provide space, and when all else fails, utilize humor. I am passionate about supporting people who suffer from eating disorders, trauma, and issues within their own family systems. I come to the therapeutic relationship from an integrated psychodynamic, CBT, and family systems lens. I am dedicated to creating and facilitating safe spaces where one can explore their own identities and provide care tailored to specific needs.

I also specialize in couples counseling, polyamorous relationships, and on identity, sex, and intimacy issues.
I believe the most important question we can ask ourselves is, "What do I want?" I believe that everyone has an ability to move towards growth, healing, and fulfillment. I approach therapy from a perspective learning and believe that the more we learn about ourselves, the better able we are to make choices about how we want to move forward in life. I use an integrative framework to address each client’s individual needs. I work from a trauma informed lens and use interventions from existential, Attachment Theory, Gottman, ACT, IPT, and EFT.

I am happy to offer a free 10-minute consultation to help us determine if we will be able to develop a productive working relationship.
It is my belief that the counseling process must be tailored to meet the individual’s needs. You may want to address the ways past experiences have shaped your life, learn skills to help cope with the issues you are currently facing, find a deeper meaning in your life, or move towards healing. Whatever your goals, we will work together to determine a way forward that will be most effective for you.

I offer two individual treatments, Cognitive Processing Therapy and Prolonged Exposure Therapy, as well as a couples-based PTSD treatment, Cognitive Behavioral Conjoint Therapy for PTSD.
You've lived through something terrible that most people do not understand. There is a daily battle inside your head. You constantly fight back memories of what you've experienced. You wake up in a cold sweat with your heart racing. You pick up extra shifts at work, and your phone is a welcome distraction from your thoughts. You grapple with why this has happened to you. When you're at a game or the store, you're exhausted from scanning the crowd. You desperately want to move on and feel some relief, but the harder you try to forget it, the worse you feel. These are normal reactions to a horribly abnormal situation.

It is a goal of mine to provide accessible, pleasure-centered sex and relationship care to the LGBTQIA+ community, with specific focus on queer and non-monogamous relationship structures.
We are evolving people living at the intersections of multiple identities. To discover our own power within our identities, we have an opportunity to learn more about who we are and how we relate. Whether it’s exploring your grief within a loss or learning new skills in improving your intimate relationships, I strive to provide equitable care, which includes considering how structural racism and racial identity impacts the wellness of individuals. I would love to learn more about your story.

I have been in full-time practice as a clinical social worker/psychotherapist since 1969, and practiced in both hospital and agency psychiatric settings as a clinician, as well as a supervisor and administrator for over 15 years, in addition to maintaining a private practice. Throughout my career, I have provided numerous national and regional training seminars and workshops for MH professionals on women's issues; treatments for the chronically mentally ill; and group psychotherapy modalities, and have also published in these areas.I have an eclectic style that encourages a flexible and collaborative therapeutic partnership which reflects the needs, goals, and personal context of the individual person. Every person needs the safety net of an affirming and compassionate relationship to explore the changes needed to bring more balance to ones life-- whether learning to integrate a synergy of mind, body, and spirit, or exploring change in the patterns of relationships and behaviors that are impeding growth.

Are you a young adult woman experiencing anxiety, depression, relationship issues, self-esteem issues, and even trauma? Self-discovery and creating/finding identity are goals I work best with. In my most recent job, I have found that domestic violence survivors and women who experience issues specific to being a woman have piqued my interest. As a therapist, the most rewarding thing is to guide women toward embracing themselves for who they are, heal past wounds, and empower them to live fully and authentically. I believe I have been given a purpose in this world to serve others, and that's what I was created to do.

Note: I am only doing couples/marriage/premarital counseling at this time. As a Marriage and Family Therapist, my perspective of the human condition and experience is derived from thinking about the context of relationships. Very few, if any, "problems" are a solitary experience; it is often experienced with others in our lives. We are relational beings, and who we are has been influenced by the relationships we have with others. Relationships can hurt, but relationships can also heal. Begin the process of healing and restoring you (and your relationships) today.

My areas of focus include relationships (couples counseling, divorce, and family dynamics), life transitions and uncertainty, parenting, school and work challenges, and the anxiety and depression that often accompany these and other issues.
I believe that every individual, couple, and family has a story that they can change by gaining insight into their situation and making different choices. I partner with my clients to help them explore the options and tools available to them. Having spent years in the corporate and nonprofit arenas before embarking on my second career as a counselor, I bring real-world knowledge to my sessions. I am genuine with my clients, and sessions with me are just as likely to include laughter as they are tears. I treat each client with respect while asking tough questions that lead to productive conversations.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
