Get your ESL students talking with these interactive digital lessons! The “My World” Unit is composed of nine 30-minute to 1-hour lessons, all centered around a different topic in kids’ lives. With each lesson, students learn new vocabulary words on a topic, practice using the new vocabulary in sentences and conversation, read a story on the topic, practice free-talk, and do a short writing activity. By the end of each lesson, students will feel more confident talking about the given topic and expressing their own ideas about it. 

These lessons are designed for beginner and elementary level (A1 and A2) students who already have a foundation in their English language learning; students who have learned plenty of vocabulary words but just don’t have the confidence or competence to hold a conversation on a given topic. 

Going beyond the basic vocabulary words that are taught on each of these topics, these lessons build on the knowledge students already have and help them to use what they know in conversation. They give students the opportunity to practice putting their ideas together and expressing them clearly.

Basic Layout of Each Lesson:

1. Hello Page - say hello, get student warmed up and ready for the lesson
2. Reward System / Brain-Break Game - keep your student motivated and having fun throughout the lesson while playing a game that encourages speaking
3. Topic Introduction - introduce the topic to student and determine how much student already knows on the topic
4. Vocabulary Discovery - have student think about any vocabulary they already know about the topic
5. New Vocabulary Introduction - using pictures and conversation, teacher explains new vocabulary words
6. Interactive Vocabulary Practice - with interactive activities, the student practices using the new vocabulary in sentences/conversation
7. Story - student reads a story on the topic while the teacher helps improve their pronunciation and comprehension
8. Story Comprehension Questions - student reviews the story and relates it back to their own life
9. Free talk - first the teacher leads the conversation about the topic, giving the student the chance to use the new vocabulary and sentence frames they have been practicing. Then the student has the chance to lead the conversation while asking the teacher questions on the topic
10. Writing Project - using everything covered in the lesson, the student writes a short paragraph on the topic guided by questions and the teacher
