When you're shopping for dental insurance, one question that comes up at the beginning is:
Do you have a preferred dentist, or are you open to any dentist?
The reason for the question is a simple one. With a network plan and seeing a dentist that participates in that network will give you lower rates. These rates with Spirit are on avg. 30% lower the normal cost.
If you’re wondering if Spirit plans are PPO plans, they are! Spirit plans are underwritten by Ameritas that allows you to see any dentist and receive more savings when visiting an in-network dentist.
Spirit offers two types of plans: Network and Choice
SPIRIT NETWORK
Spirit Network plans have reduced rates for dental services and procedures with dentists in-network. You can find if your dentist is in-network with a simple search.
SPIRIT CHOICE
Spirit Choice plans give you the freedom to see any dentist or specialist and still receive the network benefits when you visit an in-network dentist. Ameritas pays on the UCR (usual and customary rate). They will see what 9 out of 10 (90%) dentists in the area charge for that procedure and pay on that rate. Other plans tend to only use 80% or lower.

Annual maximums are the amount the dental plan will pay each year. Some dental plans have unlimited annual maximums. Even though Spirit does not offer unlimited annual maximums, two of its plans offer two of the highest annual maximums in the country.
