    WINDOW TYPES

We offer a variety of window styles which are available custom to size.

    Bay Window
Traditionally made from three units with one large picture window flanked by two operating windows. The most popular combinations consist of double hung or casement style flanking windows. All the units can be stationary, operating, or any combination of the two.

    Bow Window
Traditionally made of four or more windows joined together to form a delicate arch. A Bow can consist of any combination of windows.

    Casement Window
A casement window is hinged on either side so the sash opens outward in a swinging motion to provide maximum ventilation.

    Double Hung Window
A window consisting of two sashes operating in a master frame where both the upper and lower halves slide vertically past each other and both tilt in for cleaning.

    Garden Window
A box-shaped window with a slanted glass roof, typically with a glass shelf, which projects from the side of structure and can be used as a miniature greenhouse.

    Picture Window
A fixed window which does not open for ventilation.

    Skylight
A roof window which gives light and if it is operable, ventilation.

    Slider Window

A window consisting of two or more sashes which operate by sliding horizontally past each other.

Energy efficient windows are manufactured so that heat is kept inside the home in winter and outside the home in summer. This reduces heating and cooling costs, minimizes energy consumption impacting the environment, and limits the size of the HVAC equipment required for keeping the home comfortable. In climates that mainly require cooling, windows have represented a major source of unwanted heat gain. In recent years, windows have undergone a technological revolution. It is now possible to significantly reduce solar heat gain and improve comfort while providing clear views and daylight. In warm regions, this means that high-performance windows can face into the sun if desired without great energy penalties – although shading techniques remain important.

Many organic materials, such as carpet, fabrics, paper, artwork, paints, and wood may fade upon exposure to sunlight. Window selection can influence the type and intensity of transmitted radiation. The most harmful radiation in sunlight is the ultraviolet (UV) rays, which are the most energetic and thus most likely to break chemical bonds, leading to fading and degradation. Glass blocks all UV radiation below 300 nm, but transmits UV rays from 300-380 nm. Coatings on glass can reduce the UV rays transmitted by up to 80%.

Energy-efficient windows improve comfort within homes by providing a warmer interior surface during the cold winter months, preventing the living space near windows from getting uncomfortably cold. If inefficient window performance cools down the air near windows, the cold air floats to the ground. This feels like a cold draft, even though the window may be perfectly sealed.

By reducing the need for air conditioning, energy-efficient windows that control solar heat gain also reduce the risk of possible health effects from air conditioning – for instance, the overuse of air conditioning can cause headaches or aggravate the effects of arthritis and neuritis.

High-performance windows create warmer interior glass surfaces, reducing frost and condensation. Energy efficient windows with warm edge technology and insulating frames have such a warm interior surface that condensation on any interior surface is significantly reduced under all conditions.
