Nurse Residency Program

Preceptor-Led Department Orientation

Clinical orientation will take place within the department with dedicated preceptors. During this time, new graduate nurses can expect the following with an experienced nurse preceptor:

  • Working side-by-side for each shift
  • Performing tasks together
  • Open communication/shared dialogue
  • Tackling problems/changes in real time

Week 1

Specialty-Specific Clinical Classes

Instructor-led activities focused on specialty-specific clinical skills and simulations. Specialty tracks include:

  • Emergency
  • Critical Care
  • Maternal
  • Newborn
  • Medical/Surgical
  • Operating Room Care
  • Pediatrics
  • Psychiatry

Months 2-12

Nursing Practice Seminars

Seminars with information provided by content experts that focus on the clinical application of topics including:

  • Equity, Diversity and Inclusion
  • Ethical Considerations
  • Healthy Work Relationships
  • Mentor Support
  • Patient Safety
  • Professional Development
  • Resiliency and Stress Management
  • Teamwork
  • Workplace Violence

Months 2-12
