Medical weight loss program benefits

Metabolic health is complex and often intersects with other areas of concern - from emotional health to sleep issues - and we each have our unique challenges that deserve personalized solutions. Our doctors understand that. We listen to our members to understand their history and what has or hasn't worked to create a comprehensive plan that drives real results. Some of the benefits of our program include:

Accessible testing and weight loss medications

After a consultation, our physicians can order necessary lab work and tests to the lab nearest you. Once evaluations are completed and your doctor determines which medication is right for you, prescriptions are sent to your nearest pharmacy for pick up.

Many times, insurance covers the cost of medication, and our physicians can help with getting prior authorizations if needed. Without insurance, our patients save an average of 58% on medications with our PlushCare member discount card.

Long term success

It's easy to feel frustrated if you've tried weight loss programs before that didn't produce lasting results. Our physicians will guide you to make clinically-backed lifestyle changes and develop skills to help you achieve long-term success.

Weight loss treatment FAQs

  • Am I eligible for weight loss medication?

Weight loss medication is not necessary for everyone. Your visits with a PlushCare doctor will be used to determine the optimal weight management plan for your specific needs, and this plan may or may not include medication.
  • Can I use insurance for weight loss medication?

Yes, we are in network with most major insurance providers. You’ll have the option to search for and select your insurance provider when you book an online appointment in order to determine if your insurance is in network.

  • How much will weight loss medication cost?

Prices vary depending on the medication type, and whether or not you use insurance to pay for it. The good news is that even if you are uninsured, our members save an average of 58% on prescriptions through our member discount card.

Most branded weight loss medications require prior authorization in order for insurance to cover the cost. Your PlushCare physician and care team will reach out to your insurer on your behalf, and this process can take several business days. If you are denied the prior authorization or do not have health insurance, you may still purchase the medication at the full cash price.
  • Is weight loss medication effective?

Weight loss medication has proven to be an effective component in losing and keeping off weight, but it should be complemented by appropriate dietary choices and exercise. Our doctors will work with you to determine if medication is right for you, and they will set realistic expectations based on your personal habits and lifestyle.

  • Who can join the PlushCare weight loss program?

Our weight loss program can help you get to a healthy weight. If you have type 2 diabetes, a BMI of 30, or a BMI of 27 with one weight-related medical condition, you may be a candidate for some the newer weight loss medications such as Wegovy® or Saxenda® or diabetes medications such as Ozempic® and Mounjaro®. If your BMI is less than 27, we can help with diet, exercise, and weight loss medications such as Topiramate, WellbutrinContrave®, or Plenity®.

BMI is calculated by dividing an individual's weight in kilograms (kg), by the square of their height in meters (m2).

We do not treat patients with symptoms of an active eating disorder with weight loss medication, including bulimia nervosa, anorexia nervosa, or binge eating disorder. But don't worry - even if you aren't enrolled in the weight loss program, you can still join PlushCare and speak with a doctor about any of your health concerns.

  • What happens when you stop taking weight loss medications?

When weight loss medications are stopped, many people gain the weight back.
