Hi I'm Josh from Spears. And in this video at I'm going to be addressing drain and pump problems in your washing machine. The most common drain problem that washing machines develop is that they simply won't drain at all. And this is usually due to a foreign object in the wash load that has found its way through the machine and got stuck in the sump hose and blocked the pump. To give you a better idea of what's going on I'm just going to put the machine down onto its side, so we can have a look inside. This is the under side of the machine here's the pump assembly and this is the sump hose. Now before the object has had a chance to get into the pump most machines and made with a filter or trap. And you can't get to this by just undoing the cover on the front to the machine and unscrewing the filter. And that's designed to catch whatever object has made its way through the wash load, and before it gets to the pump. It may be the case on your machine the filter is similar to this one where the front of it is attached to the body. And that means that if you do get an object caught in there you can't actually unscrew the filter because it catches on the sides. Now if that's the case you need to get access to the pump assembly or the sump hose and remove either one of them in order to remove the object from the filter. If the machine is draining slowly it could be due to a partial blockage and that could be from debris or a small item of clothing. Obviously the first place you need to check is the filter and one seat at the filter is clear just have a feel along the sump hose for anything that might be blocking it. And obviously if you do find something you need to disconnect the sump hose and remove the blockage. It could also be draining slowly because the pump has burnt out or what tends to happen sometimes is this something gets wrapped around the pump impeller such as a piece of plastic or an elastic band. In which case you need to remove that before putting the pump back in. Now this machine is equipped with two pumps. A recirculation pump, and a drainage pump. So if you're getting strange noises during the wash cycle it's more likely to be a problem with the recirculation pump. If the noise is happening during the drainage, that could be an issue with the drainage pump. If you've checked all of these areas for blockages, and he still can't find anything and if your machine is connected to a spigot underneath the kitchen sink. Then it could be that the sink itself is blocked with something like fat. To check this just disconnect the drain hose from the spigots and try emptying the machine into a bucket. If the water doesn't come out of the hose then obviously you need to clear your kitchen sink and before reconnecting the drain hose. Now a question we often get asked is how to drain a machine if it's stopped while it's full of water?.
